Brookelynn Constant Attends Clinton Global Initiative University Conference

On February 13-15th Honors Student Brookelynn Constant attended the Clinton Global Initiative University Conference at the University of Texas in Austin. Over 1,000 motivated and globally oriented young people gathered to discuss global issues and bring about a commitment to change. Every participant submitted a proposal with a detailed plan of action that included goals, obstacles, and a plan to raise money and gain community support.
She is currently exploring options to develop a non-profit organization, Pilgrims of the World, that will offer inner city children the opportunity to be paired with a mentor model and to travel overseas on service learning projects around the world.

Alpha Chi Fellowship Winner
Margot Conover, a senior Political Science major and Honors Program student, has won a $2500 H. Y. Benedict Fellowship from Alpha Chi National Honor Society. This marks the third consecutive year that one or more members of the Virginia Zeta Chapter have been winners. Congratulations to Margot for all of her accomplishments!

Honors Students Elected to ODK
At the annual induction of new members for the Christopher Newport University Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Society, the following five Honors Program students were welcomed into membership: Bonnie Brown (Class of 2009), Margot Conover (2009), Brookelynn Constant (2010), Elizabeth Coppage (2008), and Nicole Justice-Kleeman (2010). Erin Plisco (Vice President of the CNU Circle) and Camilla Shelton (Secretary), both of whom are Honors Program students, conducted the ceremony.

Honors Student Receives Georgetown Internship
Congratulations to Andrew Berglund, a Junior Honors Program member, for his acceptance into the “Engalitcheff Institute on Comparative Political and Economic Systems" summer internship program at Georgetown University. Berglund will be receiving 6-9 credit hours to apply to his Political Science degree here at Christopher Newport University. Not only has Berglund been accepted into this prestigious program, but he has also been awarded a $3,000 scholarship to apply to his tuition, room, and board fees. To further help his endeavors, the Honors Program has aided Berglund through the Kim David Eger Travel Award, worth $1,000. Congratulations Andrew!
