Research Support Grant Awarded to Jennifer Lynn Dierberger

Christopher Newport University senior Jennifer Dierberger has received a $500 Research Support Grant from the CNU Honors Program to offset the costs of undertaking her individual research of gang membership in El Salvador. Jennifer will travel to the El Espino detention center in Ahuachapan, El Salvador, to interview incarcerated members of the 18th Street gang. The project will focus on sociological factors which make individuals susceptible to influence by gangs and their leaders. Further, her work will examine influence tactics and power sources employed by the leaders of such gangs. Jennifer hopes to present her findings at the International Leadership Conference (new window) in Vancouver later this year. Faculty member Dr. Cheryl Chambers has played an integral role in supporting Jennifer's research. Please join us in congratulating Jennifer!
